Customs Regulations in Spain

Before moving to Spain you can complete some of the most important paperwork for the tax or pensions you may have in the UK. You will need to inform the tax office about your leaving so that you can complete any payments or get any rebates that you may be entitled to. In case you are receiving a UK income, you will have to pay tax for this. But due to double taxation agreement between Spain and the UK, you’re allowed to pay less. Besides, you should request a pension forecast so that you can get your pension in Spain. In order to obtain this you have to contact the UK Pensions Service in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Keep in mind that entitlements and pension age can vary from country to country.

Documents Required: passport, marriage/birth certificate, bank details, credit card and an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) for access to healthcare in Spain. As a UK citizen you don’t require a Visa to travel to Spain. Don’t forget about insurance. Arrival and Official Documentation
At Spain you will be considered as a newcomer, and you will have much paperwork to sort out on arrival. Firstly, you will need to get what is known as an NIE number. These are available from the National Police station and are mandatory for all foreigners living or working in Spain. This form is filled in and returned to the National Police station along with your original passport and a photocopy of it also. As a rule, this process takes around 4 weeks and at this time you can collect your number. It is used for opening a bank account and other official procedures. If you plan to work in Spain you will need to get a social security number. It is assigned the social security office. You just have to provide them with your original passport and a photocopy. Besides, here you can fill in a form that will then allow you to get a plastic card sent to you with your number on it. They will issue you with a temporary card however so that you can apply for jobs.
